Super Bowl Odds Update

The NE Patriots, KC Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys are the betting favorites to win the 2017 Super Bowl.

Since winning eight of last nine games, the Kansas City Chiefs have moved up the Super Bowl odds list and now are among the favorites at +900 (9 to 1) at sportsbooks in Las Vegas. Kansas City started slowly with two wins in four games and sending its odds down to +3300 (33 to 1). But the 10-3 Chiefs have been a red hot team entering their week 15 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. They are tied with Oakland in the AFC West standings and in command of the No. 2 seed in the AFC. Kansas City is one of three teams to gain ground on the Super Bowl odds over the past week.

The 8-5 Atlanta Falcons climbed from +2500 to +1600 following last week’s 42-14 rout of the Los Angeles Rams as 5-point road favorites. The Falcons enjoy one of the easiest remaining schedules with games against San Francisco, Carolina, and New Orleans.

The Green Bay Packers have fought their way back to +1600, joining the Falcons and the Raiders after reviving their playoff hopes with three straight wins. Green Bay opened the campaign as +600 Super Bowl favorites but quickly fell during a four-game losing streak and dropped to a distant +5000.

Leading a sharp decline down the Super Bowl odds list is the Denver Broncos, who have fallen to +5000 following last week’s 13-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans as a 2-point underdog. The defending Super Bowl champions Broncos trail Oakland and Kansas City by two games in the AFC West, and still have to play at home against New England, in KC and back home against the Raiders.

Winners in four straight games, the Patriots enter their matchup with Denver as clear +225 Super Bowl favorites. But they know they need a home field advantage throughout the playoffs to get to the Super Bowl.

The Dallas Cowboys saw a franchise-record 11-game win streak end last week at Giants stadium but remain at a strong +500. They have a nice cushion with two out of three remaining games at home. Dallas is the sure NFC favorite to hold home field and number one seed heading into the playoffs. They are followed by the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks at +650. However, Seattle has shown offensive problems scoring points on the road and need a number two seed to stay at home in first round.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who have regained their winning ways, are listed at +900, while the New York Giants are listed with the Detroit Lions at +2000. NY Giants play at home against Detroit and need a win to solidify a wild card spot. Can the Giants beat a surprise Detroit team after their emotional upset of the Cowboys.

The Buccaneers are listed at +4000 and play on the road in Dallas. The Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans, and Washington Redskins are all listed alongside the Broncos at +5000.

The Indianapolis Colts sit well back at +6000, followed by Tennessee at +7500, and the Miami Dolphins at +10000 with the Arizona Cardinals at +50000 (50 to 1).

Some divisional titles and wild cards will be decided these last three weeks of the season and the post season seeds and matchups will be set. Winning or losing in December is the dominant month to succeed or fail during the NFL schedule. Limping into the playoffs with a poor showing in December usually gets you knocked out in first round. There are no excuses this time of year. Coaches and players now earn their money and pride.
