Has Tony Romo been replaced as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. Is Romo the Wally Pipp of the NFL ?

The story of Wally Pipp and how he was replaced at first base for the New York Yankees is a legendary story. There are a few versions of what happened but the basic premise revolves around a baseball legend replacing one of his teammates as a temporary assignment.

The temporary assigned player was none other than the “iron horse” Lou Gehrig. Wally Pipp was the starting first baseman for the Yankees back in 1925. Pipp was removed by the manager due to blurred vision and headache from a previous game bean ball. The manager replaced him with backup player named Gehrig and the rest is history. Pipp never got his job back as Gehrig went on to the hall of fame.

When a very good player is replaced by a substitute player due to injury, the manager has no choice but to play a backup replacement. Is Dak Prescott that good to keep Tony Romo on the sidelines in Dallas.

Jerry Jones is trying to side-step this brewing controversy during his news statements. Jones never expected this but is quite happy his team keeps winning with Prescott. When Romo went down, Prescott stepped in as Lou Gehrig replaced Wally Pipp. The Cowboys have 7 wins to 1 loss due to the best rookie start by QB Prescott.

Why would the Cowboys change a winning formula by bringing back Romo to start at QB. Jones is foolish to speculate with this story to reporters. Jones and coach Garrett should give Prescott a vote of confidence by naming him to continue as the starting QB. Having Romo as backup is a great option for the Cowboys.

Can Prescott continue his stellar play into the playoffs. Is Romo getting “pipped” as the expression goes from 90 years ago.

Quarterback controversies make great copy for NFL news. Very few rookies in any sport make a great impact like Prescott. The performance of rookies in the NFL is important to each team`s success. Rookies are the future of the NFL as some veterans players have to be replaced. The NFL player span is short and injuries are part of the game. Either get replaced or step down when your body is at risk.
