European Style of Sports Betting Produces Big Payouts
A recent and novel way to bet on sports once you get educated is the spread betting exchanges in London and other European outlets. It can be one of the most profitable formats to use for payouts. It is based on the principle of the stock market where you buy and sell events on the opening or closing price.
The European style of sports betting does produce big payouts on many sporting events. This spread betting format is not available in the US but is very popular worldwide. When sports betting becomes legal in the US someday, you will see this spread betting format in the US through an online sponsor.
It was available before the 2006 US Port Security Bill with the illegal internet bill attached that caused sponsors to drop out of the US market.
These top sponsored websites operating legally in the UK are the best.
- Spreadex — the most respected spread betting book
- Sporting Index — the most well established and my favorite
- Sports Spreads — the most recent licensed book
The difference between “fixed odds” here in the US and spread betting in the UK is the risk and reward factor. It still revolves around the major sports and others with a number or line to place your bets in a sportsbook or online. In the US we refer to the point spread or the line as a fixed number to give or lay the spread or to take the points on the underdog. The same is true for the over/under or totals. However, spread betting in the UK is not a fixed number but a “spread number” that sits on both sides of the fixed number odds.
If the fixed odds or our point spread on a favorite is -3, the spread bet would be +2 to -4. If you like the favorite you buy at -4 or you like the dog you sell at +2. The payout is based on the accuracy of the wager. The amount you may win or lose will vary according to how right or how wrong you are compared to their posted prediction. On a fixed odds bet laying the 3 points on the favorite, you win even money. The same even money payout if you win with the underdog taking the 3 points.
But with a spread bet you win or lose an amount based on the final score and the amount of your stake or bet.
If the favorite wins by 5 points, 10 points or more, you receive even money based on your money bet. A $100 winning bet returns a win of $100 when the final score covers the point spread. With spreading betting on the same bet, you win an amount beyond even money. If the favorite wins by 10 points, you win 6 times you stake or money bet. The spread bet is calculated at the 10 point win minus the 4 points equals 6 times your stake. The $100 bet this way returns $600. A very high payout based on how right you are on your selection. A nice reward for much higher payouts than even money.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many options available using Spread Betting. It can take weeks to learn or comprehend this unique and complex format but sports bettors will realize this risk reward platform is worth their attention. It does require more time, more research and better handicapping skills than standard fixed betting.
You will be amazed by the creative input from this format and overall software implementation.
Be aware of this betting option that may soon be available in the US. The next few article blogs will explain more about spread betting and how they work. There are over 10 betting categories including a supremacy bet, half time bet, performance bet and the a list very similar to a prop bet but with different payouts. There is one option bet where you can win between 50 and 100 times your money bet — first half times second half on NFL games.
This is a robust system that is very rewarding if you know how to navigate all the options. Watch for more information on this dynamic sports betting platform.
