The Westgate Super Book, considered the best and biggest in Las Vegas, has posted their Major League Baseball futures list of projected team wins for the season. The list is stated as an over/under number of total wins for the season. Standard odds of -110 are the norm as bettors place their bets before opening day.

A future bet is a projection bet on something (wins) that occurs in the future season ending totals, like a team`s win and loss record. Other future odds can be related to winning a championship or just the total number of wins per team for bettors to bet over or under.

The total win number is set by the oddsmakers based on potential results, like trying to predict the future — does anybody have a crystal ball !

Future odds can be as high as 500 to 1 or down to 3 to 1. A future bet on a team listed at 500 to 1 is not a possibility but just a long shot listing for show. This type of future bet is the odds to win a championship. Most teams listed at 500 to 1, 200 to 1, 100 to 1 or 50 to 1 do not even make the playoffs and are in the “also ran” category.

The more likely an event happening the lower the odds. For a team to be listed at 3 to 1 or 6 to 1, they were close to winning a championship the previous season or did win it all. Oddsmakers are fairly adept at knowing which teams are contenders and which teams will be running behind the competition. The oddsmakers are usually right most of the time when posting their predictions unless a big underdog team rises from nowhere to shock their sport with a playoff bid. Miracles do happen, even in sports.

Team`s winning number for the MLB season are worth betting on since you might get to hedge your bet at the end of the season. If you feel some projections are high for an overrated team, then bet the under. When the win total seems too high for a team that disappoints or is exposed by weaker pitching than projected, your bet is safe.

If it comes down to the last ten games when your over or under bet is a close one, you can hedge the final few games by betting the opposite of your future bet to balance a lose or protect a win.

Once your future bet is locked in, no matter what happens to a team from injuries, losing streaks or unforeseen disruptions, the bet stands. If a team has to play 700 ball in the second half of the season to beat your under bet, it probably will not happen and you have a winning bet.

Here is the futures win betting list from the Westgate Super Book.

In the American League East Division: Boston at 92.5, Toronto at 84.5, New York Yankees at 83.5, Tampa Bay at 78.5, Baltimore at 79.5.

In the American League Central Division : Cleveland at 93.5, Detroit at 83.5, Minnesota at 75.5, Kansas City at 74.5, Chicago White Sox at 68.5.

In the American League West Division : Houston at 91.5, Seattle at 85.5, Texas at 84.5, Los Angeles Angels at 80.5, Oakland at 74.5.

In the National League East Division : Washington at 91.5, New York Mets at 88.5, Miami at 76.5, Atlanta at 75.5, Philadelphia at 72.5.

In the National League Central Division : Chicago Cubs at 95.5, St Louis at 83.5, Pittsburgh at 82.5, Cincinnati at 70.5, Milwaukee at 69.5.

In the National League West Division : Los Angeles Dodgers at 94.5, San Francisco at 87.5, Colorado at 80.5, Arizona at 77.5, San Diego at 67.5.

This future bet listing is a good indication of how well a team is expected to play and what teams are going to lose more than they win. The totals are posted with the extra one half run to prevent a push or tie at the end of the season. Baseball is the longest season of any sport at 162 games. Good teams with good pitching can stumble in the beginning but can regain momentum and move up in the standings. There have been some famous collapses in September and teams and players can slump at the wrong time. Getting that third out can be a bullpen curse — the dreaded lose in extra innings.
