Warren Sapp, CTE, and the NFL’s Dirty Secret

Hall of Famer Warren Sapp announced Tuesday that he intends to donate his brain to the Concussion Legacy Foundation when he dies. He said he made the decision because “I wanted this game to be better when I left than when I got into it.”

Sapp is just one in a long line of NFL players to donate their brains to science in order to better understand the neurological impact of football.

Recall that hall of fame linebacker Junior Seau did the same thing after shooting himself in the chest years ago. He’s not the first player to struggle with brain damage.

If not the massive stadiums, or the global appeal of the Super Bowl, this is the NFL’s real and inescapable legacy.
